What Is The Best Pocket Knife?

Choosing the best pocket knife out of the many out there is a very tough decision. Just when you think you’ve found ‘the one’ another appears and fills you with doubt.

I know how that feels, myself. After all the knives that have come and gone from my hands, I can guarantee you that the best pocket knife is a varying term. What works for me may not work for you or vice versa. In fact, the most important thing here is to determine your intentions. Where do you want to use your knife or for what?

The answers to these questions are different for everyone, but this doesn’t mean that we can’t compile what makes a pocket knife perfect. And believe me, here you’ll find only the best.

First of all, your pocket knife should be made of quality steel. This is vital for the blade’s strength, sharpness and durability. I’m quite picky when it comes to the steel, so the knives I provide here are all top quality.

Aside from this, you should pay attention to the handle. You don’t want to get one made of cheap plastic that will give you blisters. Instead look for one that is of high quality. Speaking of this, the lock, too, plays a big role. If you want to have the best pocket knife then go for a strong locking mechanism that’ll protect your fingers from getting hurt. Don’t worry, I’ll show you knives just like that.

Before we get to that, though, you need to understand that your pocket knife is your most loyal companion that can get you out of the hardest situations. You’ll never feel helpless or useless while you have it in your pocket. I speak from my own experience. No trip or home chore is impossible if I have my pocket knife with me.

If you feel that way yourself, follow me as we uncover some of the best pocket knives to buy.

If you’re looking for a perfect combination of thinness and sharpness, then this pocket knife is all you need. As it has a slim blade in the form of a spear ending in an edge as sharp as a razor, it can be used every day for slicing almost anything. The high-carbon stainless steel from which the blade is made, provides the hardness of the knife. It also allows a better hold of the edge and simpler sharpening. Speaking of the blade, the Columbia River pocket knife has a wonderful black EDP blade and is surrounded by a black edge. This makes it a gorgeous dark addition to your hand. But this is not all. When it comes to your and the knife’s safety, this one is fully equipped. Firstly, it has the Carson Flipper that is a protector while the blade is open and makes the blade’s opening faster. Then, we have the Auto LAWKS. This system inserts a pin to keep the frame and the locking liner apart. The pin is there mainly for safety reasons, preventing the liner from unlocking while you’re using the knife. What’s more, this astounding knife can be opened and closed with one hand easily and without any troubles thanks to the washers placed on the pivot of the blade. Not to mention that the thumb stud with uneven surface allows you to get a hold of the knife at any time and in any situation. Trust me, it doesn’t get any more helpful than this.

Delica is one of the most popular pocket knives made by Spyderco. Why? The uniqueness lies mainly in the handles. This type of Delica knives has a handle made of fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN), which you can order in different colors such as green, blue, purple, gray and brown. And to make sure the knife won’t slip from your hands, the company added Bi-Directional Texturing onto the surface of the handle. But there’s more to it than what meets the eye. The inside of the handle consists of dual skeletonized liners made of stainless steel. They give strength and firmness to the whole pocket knife, while keeping its weight light, which is a very useful thing. Especially if you intend to carry your pocket knife with you all the time. Moving on to the blade, it has a flat ground with a cutting edge that’s advanced and thin enough to pierce through things and a large opening hole of 13mm. The opening and closing of the knife is pretty easy thanks to the phosphor bronze washers and the option to use only one hand for these actions. The carrying is simple, too, when you consider the clip, which is suitable for all sides (up, down, left or right). As for the proof of the knife’s awesomeness, it has been tested for durability and quality. Not to mention that you get all this for an affordable price.

Personal recommendation

Perfection doesn’t exist, but these knives are well close to that. Each of them sports their own strengths and designs which appeal to vast audiences of pocket-knife lovers. Whether it’s their durability, firmness, thinness, materials, length, weight or good looks, they find ways to impress everyone.

If I have to choose, though, I’d definitely go with Spyderco Delica4 Lightweight FRN Knife and SOG Specialty Knives & Tools SOGAC77 Access Card 2.0 Knife. They’ve been a stunning addition to my pocket knife collection for years and have only helped me in hard situations and when I needed them most.

They have the qualities the best knives should possess. Take Spyderco’s handle, for one. It never slipped from my hands and I found the nylon material very comfortable in my fingers. Aside from this, the light weight is a huge plus, believe me. Especially when you need to carry the knife with you during the whole day, you’ll find this blend of toughness and easiness very helpful. I know it did me an immense favor. It was like I wasn’t carrying a pocket knife with me at all. It’s that light! And when I used it to cut through an object, it pierced the surface at once.

The Access Card 2.0 Knife, on the other hand, is the absolute guilty pleasure for me. The modern and minimalistic design definitely steals the spotlight, bringing a certain kind of elegance to the whole knife. Only a glance is enough to make you buy it. And that’s just scratching the surface with this fellow. Thanks to its tough VG-10 steel blade, you can consider every task as finished. Not to mention that you can count on it to get you out of any unpredictable situation. Once I ended up alone on the mountain and this one got me the food I needed so badly. Another aspect of the Access Card 2.0 that particularly wowed me is the fact that you can take it everywhere with you and carry it in every place imaginable thanks to its ability to fold easily. Also, if you want to work with two hands like me, then this is the pocket knife for you.

All in all, no matter which pocket knife you choose, I promise you a great quality mixed with impeccable design for your money.
